@Administrator @Global Moderator @Moderator No idea, possibly. Methods to mitigate spam have, are and will be looked into but no method/s so far have proven 100% effective. No spam filter will catch everything.
There seems to be of an influx of 'spam' posters this year than what i noticed last year, i guess that happens as the servers gain popularity.
We use a popular and easily identifiable piece of forum software which means that it is easier to automate signup and spam processes. Combined with periodic spikes in popularity caused by changes to a new pack or a map reset leaves our site with a higher search result which makes us a target for spam.
While I do like ideas for stopping spam, I don't think blocking member ability to post for 24 hours will help in this case. First of all, this would cause legit members to be unable to ask for support when they are having issues before joining the server. This could cause them to look elsewhere for a server to play, and we don't want that Second, It would just mean the spambots would need to wait 24 hours to post their spam. I get the feeling they have a higher level patience than the average person.
Are the spambots using actual Minecraft accounts? Pretty sure it's already a problem if people create an account that doesn't match their MC name, so if there was some way to disable posting for non-MC names that would probably cut down on spam and the error page could explicitly say something like "You need to use your MC name for your forum account." should be reasonable for real humans trying to post?
We considered this previously, but has since been made an impossibility due to the fact that we now host both Ark and Starmade servers.
