I've noticed a vast majority of people complaining about how messy spawn can be sometimes with the craters from large tools such as the Dark Matter Hammer. The landscape bluntly looks like a large dog scraped it's butt across the floor of a large carpet which is the land. Another thing is the lack of trees, animals, and other simple things like flowers and grass to help starting members. I am still fairly new and I remember how far I had to go out to get some food and I had still almost died with the starting food in inventory. This can be a simple fix with some mob eggs thrown around. The last thing is bodies of water flowing into pits made by people needing sand at the start. This also relates to my first statement about the destroyed land but the water flow as you probably know doesn't help with lag. (On a side note.) How long does it take for these items de-spawn upon drop? I notice when I mine with a hammer that the trail I leave behind doesn't want to disappear in a small amount of 15 minutes or so. I've been told multiple times as has my Co-Landowner to "pick up our crap" my mods. I carry multiple alch. bags, matter of fact I own a alch. bag shop. But I still have trouble picking them up. So I'd recommend that items should de-spawn faster than what it is currently set to.
Even better reason to add a time, the items dropped by miners would be mad and cause quite a bit of lagg.
Perhaps Creating a series of "paths" out of spawn? But even then people with shops or who want to kill newbies as they exit will just move to the end of them and build there. Other than pushing back the spawn zone protected area I don't personally see what we can do to reduce the spawn crowding problem. although spawn could use more breathing room to build additional buildings later. The other issue is moving/getting people to move their shops and such, just erasing them is not a viable option. As to animals, maybe an admin or someone could add afew spawners in the protected area for friendly mobs to assist new players with food etc
I can only see new players using those paths and even then I wouldn't follow one as I would like to live out away from a civilization. (I went out a few thousand blocks into a jungle cave the first day I was on the server.) The big dark matter tool holes need to be fixed, rubber trees need to be planted, and old buildings need to be removed. Maybe a command that puts you 1000 blocks out from spawn in a random direction? If thats even possible. That would clear up the classic cobble home a 10 yr old would put right at the doorstep of spawn just to get destroyed because he doesn't know how to set up /res yet.
the lack of animals is a bit a disappointment admin should turn up the animals spawn rate so we can use them for they are for in the game. to solve the problem with people hogging the animals they should take out of there base or see if we can have a limit like the xbox does to help with lag problems
umm you know this thread is over 2 years old right and about the animals spawn rate it is low as for some stupid reason the mod pack was spawning thousands of mobs for no reason
i know the thread is 2 years old and ftb has had many update since and i have join your server yesterday and i love its great to play with australians. any how getting back to my point is where my base is not one animal spawns i have for a wake around the map and i found that 800 plus blocks away there is animals everywhere if you could try some test to see if its fixed if and if its still broke them ok but it would not hurt to look into it ??? @xxIMSTILLCRAZYxx In future, please don't resurrect old threads. If you feel it's related, please start a new thread and link to the old thread for reference. As @darkcamo12 said, we've had to nerf the spawn rate at the moment due to an excessively high number of mobs spawning for no reason. Once @Caraxi is able to work out a solution (Cara is amazing at finding solutions) that won't negatively impact server performance, then we'll look at increasing the number of mobs that spawn. As to your particular problem, you have two options right now with the way things are running with the server: move to where there are more animals, or deal with the lack of animals as it is. If you're running low on food in particular I can drop off some when I'm online tomorrow.
